About this event
We are delighted to announce details of our next Story Cafe, HMS Warspite with Richard Holme, which will take place on Thursday 24th February at Marazion Community Centre from 3pm.
The battleship HMS Warspite is renowned for her numerous battle honours in both world wars, but she met her end here at Mount’s Bay in 1947. She was wrecked off Prussia Cove on her way to the ship-breakers, and was dismantled there over the next ten years in an ingenious feat of salvage that was witnessed by many Marazion locals.
Marine historian Richard Holme studies HMS Warspite as part of his Masters at Newcastle University. His talk will embrace details of both her war service and her last days here in Cornish waters.
Complimentary refreshments will be served after the talk.
There is no cost.
Tickets will be available to book from Wednesday 20th January – to book a free place please go to Eventbrite
We are very grateful to Cornwall Community Foundation who helped to fund our story cafes.
