About this event
Venue: Engine Room at The Exchange
Virginia Woolf’s childhood summers at Talland House in St Ives had a profound impact on the development of her imagination and her formation as a writer. 2027 will mark the centenary year of To The Lighthouse, which ,while set on a Scottish island, was inspired by the views across to Godrevy lighthouse from the gardens at Talland. Heritage horticulturalist, Polly Carter will tell this story through the plants she has harvested from Woolf’s memoirs and novels, and planted back where they first took root as inspiration in Woolf’s mind, Talland House; also raising awareness about the current threat to the view – an asset of international literary significance – by property developers
