About this event
However, there is a young left-wing teacher on the committee who decides to turn the pageant into a rally for the proletarian revolution. Committee meetings become symbolic battlefields for conflicting views–the right-wing faction being led by the Chairman’s conservative wife. The event turns into a violent confrontation between the two extremes, with cataclysmic results. Police intervention brings matters to a relatively quiet conclusion, but already another pageant- Romans versus Britons- seems an attractive possibility.
The play premiered in London in 1978, starring Paul Eddington and Julia McKenzie, but the themes of both committee conflict (the Zoom meeting in Handforth nr. Manchester earlier this year for example) and ideological conflict are still very relevant today.
After eighteen months of our theatre being “dark” come along and enjoy the mayhem in September 2021. We at Newquay D S (Lane Theatre) look forward to welcoming you all back to see this very funny play, written by a master of the genre, Sir Alan Ayckbourn.
This is one not to miss and early booking is advised.
