About this event
Led by an expert practitioner, you’ll learn the natural dyeing process in detail, enjoying hands-on activities at each stage of the process as you learn how to colour woollen yarn with natural dyes from plants. Inspired by the historic works of British natural dyer, Ethel Mairet, we will explore the dyeing process of merino wool using both traditional dried and freshly foraged plants.
The course offers in-depth learning on natural dye, from preparing the yarns with mordant and making the dyebaths themselves through to discovering shade modification to create a beautiful palette of hues.
You will create a dye notation and recipe folder to take home with you along with 100g of merino wool that you have hand-dyed to use afterwards.
Based in our professional-standard studios and natural dye lab at the Fashion and Textiles Institute, come and stretch your creative skills with the natural world at the centre of all stages.
