About this event
The Glass Shack studio in Downderry is where all the pieces are handmade…from design through to final completed and mounted piece…and from where the stunning views over the bay towards Looe Island are the obvious inspiration for many of the pieces. Come in during Open Studios are you will probably find Caroline at her workbench, creating, and you will spy many of the work in progress pieces that are generally ‘on the go’!
Glass Fusion involves cutting and shaping pieces of specialist glass, sometimes with the addition of other materials, which are then ‘fused’ together by a process of heating in a kiln at a temperature of somewhere between 740 and 830c. Sometimes a second fusing is required if a piece needs to be shaped rather than left flat.
Within the studio there is also a small gallery area, where a selection of items are available for sale, with prices starting at just a few pounds.
If nothing that’s already made catches your eye, or if you want something very specific and personal, then why not commission your own piece of glass artwork instead?
The Downderry studio is also the place where you can come and try your hand at glass fusing for yourself…regular workshops are held with easy to follow templates available and step by step instructions and help from Caroline…great fun to join in with a group or why not organise your own group of friends to come along and have a fabulous experience – just ask Caroline for more details when you pop in!
