About this event
Robert Burns once said that there are two types of people: the merry and the grave. At this event, the odd couple of romantic literature (Burns and Wordsworth) meet for the very first time, but will they get on? In this vibrant piece – part performance, part recitation – Iain and Mark celebrate the work of two remarkable poets: one decidedly merry, the other… a little less so.
Mark Crees’s essays and stories have appeared in The Reader, The Threepenny Review, The Guardian and the Times Literary Supplement. His Dickensian play, The Locksmith’s Wife, was toured by Cube Theatre. Mark’s most recent play, The Spy Who Loved D. H. Lawrence, was performed in Bodmin Barracks in 2018. He is also the drummer with the 60s band, The Hurdy Gurdies.
Iain Macdonald was previously a freelance journalist, Naval Officer and English teacher and now the author of two published novels: Mentoring Mr Singleman, and The Unbinding of Edward Tremenheere. Iain has also performed with Cube Theatre and, more recently, with Bodkin Theatre at The Minack. A passionate reciter of Burns, Iain’s talents are always in great demand each Burns night.
