A powerful, modern play full of black humour.

TOUCH theatre and Gweek Players presents, The Welkin, which starred Maxine Peake in the recent highly successful production at The National Theatre, is a modern play though set in the 18th Century.

It explores themes of hierarchy, power and gender – issues still highly relevant to 2021.
Sally is a convicted murderer, condemned to hang, but is pleading her belly (claims to be pregnant) to avoid execution.

A jury of very human, ‘good women and true’ are appointed to decide if she is telling the truth. They joke, bitch, bond and belittle the only man in the courtroom as they come to their decision.

This is a powerful play full of black humour, dealing with adult themes. It contains strong language and is not suitable for children.

September 2nd – 4th, 7.30pm (plus Matinee at 2.30pm on Saturday)
