About this event
Three Spires Singers, with Andrew Wyatt (organ) present Late Romantic settings of sacred texts, two by Czech and two by French composers
Janacek’s Otcenas is a setting of The Lord’s Prayer for tenor and choir, completed in 1901. Dvorak’s Mass in D was composed in 1887, and is sometimes called the Luzany Mass after the church for which it was written.
Like the Dvorak work, the Messe Solennelle (1899) of Louis Vierne was composed for liturgical use, in this case for Notre Dame in Paris, where Vierne was organist. The Laudate Dominum of Dupre is the last of of four rarely performed motets composed in 1916.
This programme will also include a performance of Widor’s well-known Toccata for organ.
