About this event
This pop-up performance will be part of the Powered Up Performance activity happening on the piazza in Newquay on the 19th of March at 1pm and 1.30pm.
The Tide Travellers, is a celebration of Cornish Culture, through the use of stories, songs and community engagement. The pop-up performance reflects memories, tales, and traditions that are prevalent in Cornwall and its people; past and present.
Our characters are from the old Kernow, excited to discover the new.
“We’ve travelled through the tides and time, the seconds and the sea, we, the old, here to see, new Kernow by the quay. We’ve carried the stories, trinkets and tales, and we hang them proudly upon our sails”
The three fisherwomen, shortly after arriving at their last stop, begin enthusiastically sharing what they’ve found along the way.
Haylie, in her boat, with a map in hand, she mans her sail, telling all the Tide Travellers’ tale. With her telescope to eye, she scopes out the new. Issie on her rock, fishes for stolen stories from her wicker basket below, weaving a yarn or two. As Meva sorts through her finding from her travels across the seconds and the seas and hangs them proudly upon her timeline for all to see.
There will be recorded audio played through speakers, live singing and interaction with the public/passers-by within this pop-up performance.
This is funded by the Welcome Back Fund which is funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
