About this event
Join us on Saturday 30 May, 10am–12pm, for a creative Storytale Studio session exploring tie‑dye techniques inspired by stories, landscapes and colour.
Drawing on descriptions of the sea and Cornish scenery from the library collection, this session explores how words can spark visual ideas. Using inks and dyes, you’ll experiment with traditional tie‑dye techniques, trying out different knots and folds to create bold patterns and flowing colour.
You’ll then use your dyed artwork as backgrounds, adding simple silhouettes inspired by coastal shapes and seascapes to complete your artwork.
A relaxed, hands‑on session encouraging experimentation, storytelling and creative play.
For babies and very young children, tuff trays with interactive play inspired by storytelling will be available throughout the session.
The sessions are led by artist and workshop facilitator Sophie Stanley‑Butcher from Pop Up Paint Pot.
All Storytale Studio sessions are free and drop‑in, with no need to book.
Storytale Studio is our monthly craft session, held at the end of each month. Find out more about the programme on our main Storytale Studio event page.
This project is a collaboration with Redruth Library and is funded by SWRLS (South Western Regional Library Services).
About Storytale Studio
Did you know Kresen Kernow is home to the largest collection of books about Cornwall?
From picture books to folklore, history to contemporary writing, our shelves hold thousands of titles that help us explore Cornwall’s past, present and future. Inspired by these stories, we’re running 12 free monthly family craft sessions throughout 2026. Each session invites families to discover our library collections through book displays, trails and hands‑on creative activities.
Across the year, we’ll explore a wide range of themes and techniques, including puppetry, book‑making, monoprinting — and much more.
