About this event
We will be showing the short film by award winning local film makers, Cornwall Climate Care, ‘Down the Drain’. A Cornish story about how increasingly torrential and unpredictable rain is affecting our wildlife, the water we all need to drink and grow our crops, and the safety of our homes.
What’s in the film?
Just a few of the stories covered in Down the Drain include:
The volunteer river monitors lifting the lid on sewage pollution in Cornish rivers that haven’t been officially tested for 30 years
A project to ‘re-wet’ Cornwall’s peatlands, which lock away one million tonnes of carbon, and could also make a big difference in preventing flooding
Farmers changing how they manage their land to help save our topsoil, which is being lost at an alarming rate
The return of beavers, which could create natural flood defenses in parts of Cornwall, several hundred years after they were hunted to extinction.
What else is at the event?
There will be local environmental groups with stalls and information about how they work to protect and restore the health of our rivers. Including, The Westcountry Rivers Trust, Climate Vision, Cornwall Community Flood Forum, the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Marine and Coastal Partnership and Cornwall Wildlife Trust.
You will have the opportunity to talk to them and find out what they are doing in your area and how you can help.
There will be refreshments and delicious homemade cakes from local Women’s Institute group members for a small charge. This is a cash only event.
