About this event
Kresen Kernow is home to more than 1.5 million documents relating to Cornwall’s history including books, letters, photographs and maps. All of these items have a story to tell. While some of them reveal more about the famous people and events of Cornish history, others offer a glimpse into the lives of the ordinary men and women who have lived in, and shaped Cornwall over the centuries.
One such item, which is currently featured in our She Cares: Women and Health in Cornwall, exhibition, is a small leather-bound photo album which has ‘L Opie, The Hostel, Nov 1917’ written on the first page. Containing photographs of nurses and patients at the Redruth Officers’ Auxiliary Hospital, Scorrier, along with drawings, autographs and poems, the album was compiled by L Opie. But who was she?
Join us to learn how L Opie’s life and family were discovered and how you can use the same sources and methods to research the lives of people in the past, including your ancestors.
This talk will be delivered on Zoom, and joining information will be sent out on the morning of the talk. You can book your free place for the online talk through our Eventbrite page, visit our website on how to book your free place.
