About this event
Valerie and the Rain is the musical universe of composer and singer-songwriter Valerie Van Roey. Inspired by artists such as Joni Mitchell, Linda Perhacs and Vashti Bunyan, she writes intimate songs with a narrative character. Over the past year, Valerie’s music has grown into a new live project, where she works with musicians from The Odd Folk too.
Valerie studied composition at the Royal Conservatories of Antwerp and Ghent and grew up with the music of Arvo Pärt and Bach. She has a very unique singing voice, which is influenced by her love for Persian vocal music.
At the age of twenty, Valerie hitchhiked 6,000 km across Canada. During that trip, she bought her first guitar in Thunder Bay and wrote the song ‘Canada’, among others.
Her debut album ‘Your Name’ was recorded in a stone cabin in the mountains of southern France with producer Felix Machtelinckx (summer 2024). This album will be released in March by Mokuhi Sonorities, followed by a release tour with the full band. Valerie loves to see each song as a micro universe in which she invites her audience to travel with her.
