Situated in one of Penzance’s most popular parks, Penlee Park Theatre is a unique outdoor theatre and has played host to many theatrical performances since its inaugural season in 1948.
With a performance season running from June to September each year, the theatre seats up to 300 visitors at a time and has welcomed shows across a variety of genres from both amateur and professional touring theatre companies from Cornwall and the rest of the UK. Local theatre companies such as Scary Little Girls and Miracle Theatre have brought their hugely popular shows to this one-off stage, and other iconic shows such as ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ have also been staged at this popular space.
The theatre has also welcomed comedy shows including ‘Splann!’, a one-man show by local legend Kernow King, as well as music events featuring local musicians including 3 Daft Monkeys, Dalla and Sarah McQuaid.
This much-loved theatre also runs a busy programme of events aimed at children throughout the year. Past events have included ‘Stones and Bones’, a production about archaeology and fossils led by Squashbox Theatre, and ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’, a storytelling performance by Folksy Theatre which captures the imagination of children through fun puppetry and colourful characters.
Celebrating performers from Cornwall and beyond for more than 60 years and set in beautiful sheltered surroundings, this open-air theatre offers a truly magical experience for visitors of all ages.
