Located in the bustling port town of Falmouth, The Poly (formally known as the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society and founded in 1833) occupies a beautiful grade II listed building and concentrates significant effort on promoting the arts, sciences and fascinating Cornish history through a broad programme of exhibitions, lectures, film, live events and workshops.
The ground floor gallery concentrates on a varied collection of contemporary arts and crafts, changing up the displays on a weekly basis so visitors can always discover something new. On the second floor, the main gallery is a larger space with its own bar, making it a sought-after venue for concerts, shows and celebratory exhibitions. Serving up pre-show drinks and snacks, the main bar on the first floor is a cosy space which regularly plays host to intimate talks and film club screenings.
To discover more about Falmouth’s fascinating past, head to the back of the building where the Chellew Room is home to archive research material, open to the public at selected times of the week (check the website for more details). The ground floor is home to the popular Poly Guild shop, a collection of contemporary arts and crafts produced by skilled locals, including jewellery, pottery and creative ceramics.
Centrally located, there are two large car parks within 50 yards of The Poly and Falmouth Town train station is just 10 minutes away on foot.
