About this event
This year’s Penzance Vintage Bus Day will take place on its established annual spot of the third Sunday in April (19th).
What better way is there to see West Cornwall than from a vintage bus? Two charities, the Thames Valley & Great Western Omnibus Trust and the Cornwall Bus Preservation Society, are organising a day of free vintage bus travel centred on Penzance Bus Station for everyone to enjoy.
More than 30 buses and coaches have entered; the oldest dates from 1947 the most modern a 2026 electric bus showing how history continues to develop. All the buses go out and back from Penzance with destinations spread from Helston to Land’s End, Loggans Moor to Mousehole, also including St Buryan, Perranuthnoe, St Just, St Ives and more.
The day begins at 9.30 with a cavalcade of the buses and coaches into Penzance from Long Rock, up Market Jew Street, out past West Cornwall Hospital to Heamoor roundabout then back down the dual carriageway for buses to start giving rides from the Bus Station.
The first passenger trips will leave Penzance Bus Station at 10:00 with the last return journey setting out at 16:15 and all services scheduled to be back by 17:17. Well-behaved dogs are welcome travelling companions.
As in previous years, feeder services will run into Penzance from Camborne and St Ives (08:45 from Camborne and 08:55 from St Ives) so that passengers arrive in time to see the spectacle of the cavalcade. Feeders return at the end of the day leaving at 17:30.
Souvenir programmes are available so you can find out more. The 44-page illustrated booklets can be purchased from Saturday 11th for £7 from Sullivan’s Diner (opposite Penzance Bus Station) or online from the Trust website www.tvagwot.org.uk.
As well as timetables and details of vehicles attending, the programme looks back at the heritage of First Bus in Cornwall with feature articles.
