About this event
Walk The Line, directed by James Mangold, explores the rise and fall of country music legend Johnny Cash. Based on two autobiographies by the American singer-songwriter, the film follows Cash, played by Joaquin Phoenix, from his upbringing on an Arkansas cotton farm through to his rise to fame with Sun Records and his accompanying drug addiction, as well as his romance with the singer June Carter, played by Reese Witherspoon.
The film has been selected and will be introduced by the artist Sir Richard Long, whose iconic work A Line Made by Walking (1967), made by treading a path in grass and photographing the resulting imprint, served as the prototype for what would become an enduring series of walking works that considered action, distance and time as radical new mediums for art. The music of Nashville has often accompanied him on his travels
