About this event
Cornwall Heritage Trust is hosting a special Heritage Activity Day at Treffry Viaduct this February half term.
Taking place on Tuesday 18th February from 11am – 3pm, visitors will be transported back in time with storytelling, an archaeology scavenger trail and nature make-and-take activities.
Treffry Viaduct was built between 1839 and 1842 to carry both trucks and water across the Luxulyan Valley for local mining entrepreneur Joseph Thomas Treffry. The first large civil engineering structure of its kind to be built in Cornwall and the only known viaduct in Britain to combine these two uses, it is now a Scheduled Monument and part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage site, as designated by UNESCO. Once a hive of industrial activity, there is a wealth of history to discover there.
There’s no need to book and you don’t need to be members. Just come along and enjoy!
The site can be reached by car or by train via Luxulyan train station on the Atlantic Coast railway branch line between Par and Newquay.
This event has been made possible by funding from GWR and Cornwall Heritage Trust is hugely grateful for its support.
