About this event
This June, Salthouse Gallery St Ives presents the very first solo exhibition by landscape artist Jane Williams. This new collection of paintings is inspired by views in and around St Ives, as well as sketches made along the South West coast path. The series begins at Lelant, taking in views across the Hayle Estuary, and leads us along the coast through the town of Carbis Bay, into St Ives, and a short way out towards the village of Zennor and on to Clodgy point.
At the core of Jane’s collection are paintings of St Ives’ iconic Smeaton’s Pier, The Island and the secluded setting of Norway Square, where this collection is being exhibited. Works include mixed media paintings, alongside charcoal sketches and pen and watercolour works. Jane also paints in Tuscany every year as part of a group led by respected St Ives artist and tutor Liz Hough, at the Verrocchio Centro d’Arte in the hilltop village of Casole d’Elsa, at a studio which looks out towards Volterre, San Gimingnano and Chiante. This exhibition includes a group of works made there, which capture views of Tuscany’s vineyards, cypress trees and olive groves, providing an interesting complement to Jane’s St Ives works in terms of shape, pattern and colour.
