About this event
Who made your clothes?
What we wear shapes our identity and yet, as most clothes are made abroad, it is difficult to trace who made them and where.
As Redruth sees a resurgence in clothing made, mended and given a second life, we have looked in our collections for stories of the women making and selling clothes in Redruth. It is easy to forget that not so long ago, you could easily meet the women making your clothes.
From drapers like Madame Gribble’s establishment to dressmakers, seamstresses, umbrella menders and factories such as Heathcoats, there’s lots to learn about Redruth’s fashion history.
Visit this fascinating exhibition using a wealth of items in our collection to tell the story of Redruth’s local clothing and drapery businesses over the past 150 years.
This free exhibition is available to view in both our downstairs and upstairs exhibition spaces, during our normal opening hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday 9.30am – 4pm.
