About this event
Groundswell presents: a Wire & Write Workshop – part of BeNewquay Festival…
Join aerialist, Poppy Plowman, for a workshop that blends an introduction to tightwire with creative writing. Poppy Plowman is a British circus artist with Turkish Cypriot origins. She has worked as a professional tightwire walker and hair hanger with several leading contemporary circus companies across Europe, before creating her own work. Find out more about Poppy here.
Poppy is in Newquay for two days and presents this workshop the day before her full show, Turk(ish). During this session, Poppy will support participants in an introduction to tightwire as well as facilitate the development of some creative writing thematically linked to her work. Poppy will also incorporate audio recordings of participant writing, working them into the show that takes place the next day (17th November).
Suitable for ages 9+

Don’t forget to book for Turk(ish)! The show combines tightwire-walking and hair-hanging skills, as well as live music and humour to explore personal struggles of identity and Western beauty standards. Through her own story, Poppy encourages us to embrace and celebrate who we are. Recommended for age 7+ (but is suitable for those who are younger).
What’s more… as well as this workshop, Poppy is also facilitating a Have-a-Go Tightwire Taster Workshop on the same day as the show (17th November). This does not include the creative writing element and is suitable for all ages.
These Circus Out & About events are made possible with generous support from Carn to Cove.
