1. Salon du Chocolat

The Old Library, intoBodmin
Fri 2nd October // 7.30pm

Allow performers from Scary Little Girls to stimulate your senses!

This intimate storytelling salon celebrates the relationship between cocoa nibs and forbidden literature…

When chocolate was first brought to England in the 1600s, it was considered a taboo substance, enjoyed only by the risqué and elite in private salons. Some of our finest literature was also once considered too provocative for public consumption and was heard in similar salon environments by only the boldest of ears.

We recreate these intimate environs, combining mouth-watering chocolate treats with tales of the secret, banned and scandalous from authors such as Angela Carter and Joanne Harris.

Performed, read and sung to you by our highly acclaimed storytellers, the Salon du Chocolat invites you to succumb to a literary seduction!

Scary Little Girls is a feminist production hub with a passion for stories that are historically or culturally excluded, or usually told from one perspective only. Founded over 25 years ago by artistic director Rebecca Mordan, the company actively creates jobs for women, cross-collaborating and skills-sharing for the benefit of the artistic and wider community, and is committed to the creative case for diversity.

2. Local

The Old Library, intoBodmin
Sun 11th October // 4pm

A show exploring what it means to be local – whoever you are and wherever you’re from.Solo storyteller Liz revisits her childhood memories and home in rural Cumbria in an attempt to understand whether she still belongs there, or ever did. In this multi-generational piece, Liz takes the audience on a journey through the landscape and environment of her home, spanning the decades from the early 1990s to

today, as she reconnects with voices from the past and her young growing family now, and confronts head-on her devastating fear of loss… In a solo performance that takes us from laughter to tears and back again, Local asks what it means to be ‘local’ to a place, whether you were born there or not – and, crucially, how do we each find our own sense of belonging?

Following Liz’s sell-out tour of SWIM, LR Productions returns with their latest show Local, direct from its month-long run in London.

3. Double Bill - Copycat and (Don't You) Forget About Me

The Old Library, intoBodmin
Sun 18th October // 4pm

COPYCAT
Will AI bring armageddon or utopia? Fringe First Winner Joe Sellman-Leava (Labels, Fanboy) might be a technophobe, but trying to find out! With innovative design and uncanny impressions, Joe tells the story of a teacher, a student, and a copycat dictator, to examine rapid technological change.
‘Thoughtful and layered’ ★★★★ – Natasha Tripney – THE STAGE’”Truly excellent impressions. A playful, politically-charged theatrical web.” ★★★★ – Isy Satini – THE LIST

(DON’T YOU) FORGET ABOUT ME
In a remote, north-east village, something lurks in the bathroom: something Dylan struggles to remember, which even his dad’s deadly DIY skills can’t fix… Designer-performer Dylan Howells weaves psychological illusions and fragmented memories into a magical, chilling tale of a home that won’t stay still. Part magic show, part ghost story, this isn’t your typical conjuring act: mind-bending mentalism and spine-tingling effects blur the line between reality and fiction. A twisted tale that gets under your skin, lingering long after the lights come up.
‘Howells’ design is genius’ **** (The Stage, for It’s The Economy, Stupid!).

4. Smile You Son Of A B****

The Old Library, intoBodmin
Sun 1st November // 4pm

In 1975, one film made a generation afraid to go into the water… Fifty years later, two actors and one foley artist create a live, shot-for-shot parody of the greatest shark Movie of all time!

Made entirely from foolery, thin air, and household items, this is a hilarious JAWS parody. Jam First Theatre’s unique style is a delightfully odd and quirky blend of physical comedy, live music, magic, and mime. Their performances are hilarious, rambunctious, comic, anarchic and most of all, fun!
