Celebrate the spooky season with our Halloween half-term Top Picks

With so many Halloween events across Cornwall to choose from this year, what are you doing for this spook-tacular holiday? From murder mysteries on a steam train, to potion making, to monster balls and eerie ice skating, here are 10 events you and your family can enjoy this half-term.

1. Haunting Halloween Week at Cotehele Mill

Sat 20th – Sun 28th October 2018
Cotehele, Saltash

Are you brave enough for all the spooky things going on at Cotehele Mill this Halloween? This will be your last opportunity to experience the wonders of the mill before it closes for winter conservation. To make this final week special, the complex will be decorated for Hallowe’en and staff and volunteers will be in fancy dress. You can enjoy a spooky children’s trail plus there might be some scary baking going on.

2. Halloween at Flambards

Sat 20th – Fri 26th October 2018
Flambards, Helston

From Slime Fests and vicious Victorians to a Halloween Tricks & Treats Firework Spectacular, there’s an awful lot of family fun on offer at Flambards over October Half Term.

Junior scientists are invited to join Flambards’ very own mad professor in their onstage laboratory for Slime Fest workshops. Grab lab coats and goggles and have a go at making your own slime creations. Families can enjoy spine-tingling rides and a spooky pumpkin trail in the creepy Victorian Village throughout the day and watch fireworks light up the sky on Wednesday evening. Headlining the Wednesday night celebrations will be a fantastic Robbie Williams Tribute show, so you can sing and dance the night away to his most famous hits.

3. Halloweek at Camel Creek

Camel Creek Adventure Park, Wadebridge

Bursting with ghoulish events and packed with treats; Halloween at Camel Creek is looking spooktacular for the whole family.

Witch’s Walkway will come alive this Halloween as the toddler village is taken over with eerie activities. The well-known Witch’s Grotto will be back this year, with a TWIST! Interact with the Witch in her house and help her create a very special potion; you can even take part in apple bobbing, colouring competitions, biscuit decorating, wall of horrors and more with the Witch. Find your way out of a dark and dingy hideaway in The House of Horrors, help solve a murder mystery crime and find out who committed the murder!

4. Tricks and Tonics

Pendennis Castle, Falmouth

Thrilling tricks and tasty treats await at creepy Pendennis Castle this half term! Join the potion master and weave your magic as you make your very own potion to take home! Discover some amazing and simple tricks. Show off your spooktacular costumes and frighten the fearless staff – will you win the fancy dress competition? A perfect day out for the family this Shocktober half term!

5. Halloween Murder Mystery

Weds 24th October 2018
Bodmin & Wenford Railway, Bodmin

Are you a Miss Marple, Poirot, Morse, or maybe even a Jessica Fletcher? Watch and listen for clues, question the suspects, and determine the killer – but watch out for those red herrings! If you can spot the clues and catch the killer, you could win yourself a bottle of wine.

6. Fright Night at Pirate's Quest

Famous legends of the sea are reimagined and the authentic caves and coves inside Pirate’s Quest will be transformed into gruesome scenes filled with deranged and disturbed characters, creating Newquay’s only fully immersive, walk-through SCARE experience.

Using a cast of skilled scare-actors, detailed 360 degree sets, and shocking special effects, the after-hours Halloween experience at Pirate’s Quest is guaranteed to get you screaming! Visitors will summon their courage as they navigate their way through the dark and dank scenes coming face to face with demons from the depths, who aren’t afraid to get up close and personal…

7. Haunted Halloween at Heartlands

Heartlands, Redruth

Visit the haunted mining exhibition for an evening of Halloween fun with spooky nerf battles, animals from Mark’s Ark Wildlife Encounters, slime making, ghoulish games and more! Snacks, treats and hot drinks available at extra cost from the creepy snack stop provided by the Red River Café. Come along dressed up to join in on the fancy dress competition, prizes will be awarded for Best Costume, Cutest Costume and Scariest Little Monster.

8. Murder Mystery Dinner

Bodmin Jail

Solve a Halloween themed murder set in the atmospheric grounds of Bodmin Jail.

“It is the social event of the year and you are all invited! Magnus Winchester loves his money and wants to show all society just how rich he is. However, something isn’t quite right with all that are attending, and one of the guests has a sinister motive for being at the Masquerade Ball…”

Watch and listen as the professionally staged murder plot unfolds before your very eyes. Question the cast for those extra clues, view the murder scene, and choose your suspect.

9. Little Monsters Ball

Calling all little monsters, don’t miss Eden’s Halloween party extravaganza on Saturday 27 October.

It’s that time of year again, when the whole family dresses up in their most fiendish fancy dress for a fang-tastic evening of bone-shaking fun. Shake your pointy hat and swish your cloak on one of our two dance floors, dare to try some ghoulish foodie treats, then head to our eerie ice rink for even more thrills and chills.

10. Fright Night: Murder Mystery

Tues 30th October 2018
Newquay Zoo

We’ve got a classic case of who dunnit on our hands…

Newquay Zoo have teamed up with Newquay Tretherras school to put on a head scratching evening full of lies, revelations and hopefully some truths. Can you figure out what happened or more importantly who dunnit? In a murder mystery extravaganza!

You’ll be taken on a spooky guided tour into the depths of the zoo to meet and greet some of the suspicious characters linked to the victim. It is your job to figure out who dunnit?! All will be revealed in the final performance.
