Meet Our Community Reporters

At Cornwall 365, we've recruited five community reporters who will be out and about attending various events all around Cornwall. Keep an eye on our magazine and social media as they report back on their experiences. Read on to meet our new reporters!

Sheila Vanloo

Sheila is a proud Cornish woman and was lucky enough to grow up in Fowey, attending Fowey Grammar School.

Sheila has been reviewing and supporting Cornish Arts for 25 years. She spent 14 years with Radio St. Austell Bay as Station Manager and also presented two weekly programmes which allowed her to showcase the very best of the local Arts and live music scene. Sheila is currently presenting Anything Goes, a weekly Arts and Music show with Soundart radio – a Devon based community station.

She is Chair and Co-ordinator of St. Austell Torchlight Carnival, a Trustee of St. Austell Arts Centre and is on the Advisory Board for Scary Little Girls Theatre Hub. Sheila recently became a member of our local Soroptomist International group, a voluntary organisation that work to improve the lives of women and girls across the globe.

Sam Nancarrow

Sam is a freelance theatre-maker and performer from Cornwall. He is currently based in Penryn. When Sam is not creating performance work, you’ll likely find him treading the footpaths of one of Cornwall’s coastal walks or trailing through the shops and bars of Falmouth’s high street. Sam is also a keen runner, with feet that lead him to many of the community events in Cornwall.

Fi Read

Fi is an Antipodean blow-in, who has called Penzance home for 22 years. Coincidentally, this is the same amount of time that she has been pulling pints at the Acorn Theatre. The perfect introduction to the local performing arts and music scene, Fi spent more than a decade promoting and reviewing cultural events as a freelance contributor for Cornwall Today magazine, and other publications, as well as through her weekly Community Spirit column for the Cornishman.

Fi loves seeking out all the quirky Cornish customs, rituals, festivals and celebrations. Twice elected Mock Mayor of Penzance, and Montol’s first Lord of Misrule, she’s been trigging, bolstering, furry dancing and crying the neck. She’s also had a go at iconic Cornish pursuits like gig rowing, wrassling and shinty, and is a fan of a proper cakey tea too.

Although Fi now works as a nurse, she still helps out at the Acorn, writes and performs poetry and short stories, sings, surfs and rides her bike everywhere.

Emily Harrison

Emily is from a Northeast coastal town called South Shields. She fell in love with Kernow after moving here for university in 2017 and hasn’t wanted to leave since. After three years of intensive training from a whole host of industry professionals at Falmouth University, Emily is now the proud owner of a First-Class BA(Hons) Theatre and Performance degree.

She would describe herself as an emerging artist with a passion for theatre that involves performing, creating, writing, and watching it whenever and wherever she can. Her spare time is usually spent wandering the Cornish coast with a swimming costume, a towel, and a warm flask of tea.

Dominique Adams

Dominique is based in West Cornwall and loves to walk the coast path, explore beautiful Cornish beaches and discover the many fantastic local businesses across the county.

To become one of our community reporters, please email Florence at [email protected] with an example of a piece of writing you’ve made about an event you’ve been to, and links to your social media accounts.

Florence Cashel

Theatre, live music, comedy, community workshops with social impact: these are a few of Florence’s favourite things. When she’s not at Cornwall 365, Florence is a theatremaker and performer.
