SABOTAGE Brings Big Top Brilliance to Redruth
Cornwall 365 was invited to the opening night of SABOTAGE, as NoFit State Circus brought their Big Top to Redruth School. What unfolded was more than a show: a bold, imaginative and surprising experience that kept the audience captivated from start to finish.
The performance constantly shifts between scale and focus. At one point, all eyes are drawn to a small detail — a pair of hands reaching through the floor juggling in the shadows — and in the next, the entire tent opens up into a vast spectacle of aerial feats and daring stunts. These moments of zooming into the micro and exploding back into the macro create a rhythm that is both unexpected and thrilling, keeping the audience alert and fully immersed.
Highlights include breathtaking sequences of aerial acrobatics, physical comedy that breaks the tension with laughter, and the unforgettable sight of an artist suspended only by her hair. Clever use of props and staging ensures that the set itself becomes part of the performance, while lighting design plays a central role in shaping the atmosphere: sometimes focused and intimate, sometimes expansive and dramatic.
The live band provides the heartbeat of the show. Music shifts effortlessly between driving energy and haunting beauty, with a standout vocalist adding emotional weight to the action unfolding above and around the audience. This, combined with inventive choreography and playful audience participation, makes the evening feel alive, spontaneous and communal.
