Summer Festivals Top Picks

There is a flurry of festivals happening all over Cornwall. Here are 11 that are coming up soon!

Summer is a busy time and this year, Cornwall is jam-packed with fantastic events and things to do. Read on to find out about wide-ranging celebrations happening this summer. From gin to ice cream, to live music and tattoos – you’ll find themes of all kinds.

1. Rock Oyster Festival

Fri 29th – Sun 31st July, 2022
Dinham House, Wadebridge 

Rock Oyster Festival are bringing some of the best chefs in the country to Dinham House, for a weekend of cookery demonstrations, food and feasting. Expect an A-list line-up of chefs, curated by Cornwall’s own Jack Stein, alongside internationally-recognised music headliners at an unrivalled location on the coast.

As well as great food and music, you can take part in well-being activities and water sports such as SUP yoga, surf trips, coasteering excursions and much more can be booked for visitors who’d like to take advantage of the Cornish coastline. Families and children are also welcome and can take part in bellyboard painting, circus skills, aerial yoga, foraging walks, tie-dye workshops and much more.

2. Caribbean Family Fun Day

Sun 26th June, 2022
Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, Torpoint

Transport yourself to the tropics at this fabulous Caribbean Family Fun day! Whether you are a toddler, teen or young at heart, there will be something for everyone at this event. Including laid back reggae and rhythmic ska music from Marley White and atmospheric sounds from the Real Steel pan drum band. You can really get the Caribbean vibe going at the dance and drum workshops being run by Shumba Arts. Prepare to be wowed with fire performers!

A bouncy castle and a variety of children’s entertainment will keep the youngsters amused while the adults can browse a range of original gift stalls and indulge in a delicious drink or two from the rum and cocktail bar. And when you feel peckish, head for the food stalls, where the tantalising aromas of a range of Caribbean delights like jerk chicken, curried goat and curried chicken will make you feel as though you are exploring the streets of Barbados or Bermuda.

3. Golowan Festival

Fri 17th – Sun 26th June, 2022
Penzance Town, Harbour & Promenade, Penzance

Come along to this community festival in Penzance celebrating Midsummer and the Feast of St John. Expect parades down the street, lots of music and entertainment. There will also be markets, food stalls, youth events and many other activities there is something for everyone at this family-friendly festival.

Join the Serpent Dance, vote for the Mock Mayor, watch the fireworks display or enjoy the thrill of a funfair ride and be part of this wonderful event with the rest of the community.

4. The Doggy Summer Garden Paw-ty

Scorrier House, Redruth

It’s Paw-ty time for Pooches! Dogs love a good party as much as anyone. That’s why we’re tremendously excited to bring you the event of the year set in the stunning grounds of Scorrier House.

Skillfully created for both dogs and doggy pawrents alike by our dog-bonkers team, there’ll be a range of fun activities, dog products and services as well as a chance to learn more about your best four-legged friend’s health and wellness. They’ve included: a doggy tea party, dog show, woodland walks canine Olympics, paws got talent show, doggy café and so much more!

5. Creation Fest

The Royal Cornwall Events Centre, Wadebridge

Looking for some summer fun and a family day out? Check out Creation Fest, a free, music, skate, and family festival! This year, Creation Fest will be returning for its twentieth year for four days of celebration and with a stellar lineup, there’s music and worship from a diverse range of genres such as Roo Panes, Wildwood Kin, and Josh Curnow plus speakers from around the world, who will get festival-goers thinking and reflecting on life’s big questions.

Once again, the South West’s largest indoor skate park will be returning to the festival, complete with pro skaters and daily demos to wow the crowds. There will also be fireworks, a silent disco, and a huge variety of workshops, talks, and seminars to stimulate and inspire.

6. Ice Cream & Bubbles Festival

Mount Edgcumbe House, Torpoint

The ultimate Festival for ice-cream lovers in the South West on national ice-cream day!
A huge selection of ice-creams from an array of ice-cream sellers with every flavour you could wish for (including vegan, doggy and gluten-free) As well as Ice Cream desserts, waffles and crepes!

There will be an array of entertainment for all ages, such as bubble shows, bouncy castles, circus workshops, live music, an ice cream competition and an Ice Cream Trail. There will also be a prosecco & Pimms bar, Street food and gift stalls, where you can shops till you drop!

7. Cornwall’s Tattoo Convention 2022

The Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge

The Tattoo Convention is an explosion of art, music and alternative performing arts! Come along to Cornwall’s Tattoo Convention for an art indulgence.

Hear great music you’ve never heard before, join in with workshops, experience bags of entertainment from the bizarre performances to creative shows of the art, and even get inked by some of Cornwall’s and the world’s most prestige’s artists.

8. DadFest 2022

BF Adventure, Penryn

Come along for a fantastic fun weekend for fathers and children of all ages. DadFest is the only festival in the country just for dads and children… and it happens in Cornwall.

Enjoy a jam-packed weekend with canoeing, a massive zip-wire, archery, Forest School, campfire stories, music, slip n slide, star-gazing, bat walks and so much more. DadFest is also home to the Official World Dad Dancing Championships – come claim your dancing crown dads!

9. Dante Summer Festival

Tue 12th – Sat 16th July, 2022
Various Venues, Bodmin

The Dante Summer Festival offers a five-day feast of classical chamber music played by world-renowned artists in beautiful and intimate venues on either side of Bodmin Moor, from Callington to St Endellion.

The celebrated Brodsky Quartet plays music by Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorak, Elgar and Shostakovich, together with internationally acclaimed pianist Danny Driver and Ben Goldscheider, star of the French horn.

Young groups such as the East Cornwall Youth Orchestra also make an appearance, while other events include open rehearsals, a music workshop for children in the magical setting of Lavethan Manor, and a cabaret concert of East European folk music supporting refugees from Ukraine.

10. The Charles Causley Trust 2022 Festival of Arts and Literature

Launceston

The Causley Festival of Arts and Literature is an annual festival held by the Trust in Launceston, Cornwall, the hometown of Cornish poet Charles Causley. Held across a weekend, creatives will be leading a variety of events, including workshops and spoken word events, as part of the physical and digital programmes. The festival celebrates the artistic, literary and cultural richness of Launceston and the Southwest, in particular showcasing local creatives and their work.

On the ground in Launceston, the 3-day weekend of events will include art exhibitions in Launceston, tours of Cyprus Well (Charles Causley’s final home), exclusive meet and greets with authors and artists, talks, screenings, a poetry tour, circus and musical performances, tours of Launceston Castle, amongst others.

11. The Cornish Gin & Drinks Festival

The Alverton, Truro

From midday until late, meet the makers and sample the very best in Cornish tipples. Try oodles of samples and watch live demos and masterclasses from The Alverton’s gin distilleries. You’ll be able to pick up handy hints and tips to create your own top-notch tipples at home!

Lounge around sipping cocktails, share a tasting board of nibbles with your friends, and then dance the night away to your favourite tunes. Festival-goers can expect a whole host of entertainment, including performances from local singer-songwriters and a DJ to keep you dancing until late.
