The Lowender Peran Festival

The Lowender Peran Festival is back in full swing this October, with its annual celebration of Cornish culture and its Celtic connections.

Showcasing Cornwall’s cultural treasures and welcoming international performers from Brittany, Scotland, Wales, the Isle of Man and Ireland, events are taking place across venues in Redruth over October half-term with something for everyone. You can book your tickets here.

Get stuck into their international ceilidhs (evenings of folk music and dancing) with live music, wood-fired pizzas and a fully stocked bar including local ales and cider.

Watch colourful high street performances, soak up the atmosphere at our acoustic music sessions, take part in the family craft activities or try your hand at the Highland Fling in their dance workshops.

Enjoy a taste of Brittany with duo Le Net / Lorho-Pasco on clarinet and accordion in ‘An Evening of Breton Music and Food’ with lively melodies from the Breton tradition alongside a delicious Breton-inspired menu – taking place at the Redruth Drapery. Also at the Drapery, ‘A Very Cornish Halloween / Kalan Gwav’ – an immersive evening of music, dance, theatrics and storytelling.

Catch Cornish music pioneers Dalla for a rare concert appearance in ‘A Celebration of Cornish Celtic Music’ at St Andrews Church. You can even witness the ancient sports of Cornish Wrestling and Shinty with demonstrations and matches taking place throughout the weekend.

Take part in a ‘Kiddlywink’ at St Rumons Gardens – an exploration of Cornish smuggling with Cobweb Tours, with a taster of some old Cornish drinks and kiddlywink broth, snail racing (snails willing) and an opportunity to discover more about Cornwall’s fascinating past.

And for those who still have the energy at the end of the night – there’s our Klub Lowender Late Night Sessions featuring casio-rap comedians Hedluv & Passman, Armenez (drum and bass with a Cornish twist) and folk music sessions into the early hours.
