St Mawes

Located on the beautiful Roseland Peninsula, nestled into the east bank of the Carrick Roads, St Mawes is a charming fishing village that lies within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Located just a mile from Falmouth by boat (but, on account of the vast natural harbour, around 30 miles by road), this popular and picturesque holiday destination is completely surrounded by sea and rolling hills.

At the beginning of August, the whole village gears up for the annual Carnival Week. Beginning with the 120-year-old Town Regatta event, St Mawes Carnival Week offers up a jam-packed schedule of harbour swims, paddleboard races, beach games and crabbing competitions. Musical entertainment comprises traditional sea shanties as well as more modern discos and live bands.

Those looking for a day out in St Mawes simply must visit the stunning castle, positioned at the western point of the village overlooking the mouth of the Fal River. This magical castle is one of the best-preserved artillery fortresses built by Henry VIII and boasts elaborate design touches both inside and out. With grounds stretching down to the Fal Estuary waters, this charming attraction plays host to outdoor theatrical performances during the summer months.

The annual Roseland Festival concentrates much of its programme within St Mawes, offering an eclectic programme of talks and musical performances celebrating Cornish culture, held in popular local venues including St Mawes Memorial Hall, Tresanton Chapel and the St Mawes Hotel.
