Carnglaze Caverns is set amongst 8 acres of temperate rainforest in the steep-sided Loveny Valley on the southern edge of Bodmin Moor near the village of St Neot.
Originally an open cast quarry, over 300 years ago the miners started digging underground resulting in the formation of large open caverns.
During your visit you travel around 150m into the hillside and 60m below ground. A flight of 49 steps separates the upper cavern, known as The Rum Store, and lower caverns, where you will find our beautiful underground lake of crystal-clear blue water.
You will be given a safety briefing, equipped with a safety helmet, and left to roam freely. There are information boards telling the story of Carnglaze Caverns and the skill of the miners who created them.
Walking around the caverns usually takes around 25-30 minutes. There is also a 20 minute woodland nature trail, a café, gift shop and seasonal activities like gold panning to keep the kids entertained. Temperatures underground remain a constant 10°C, so warm clothing and sturdy footwear are recommended.
The upper cavern doubles as an atmospheric live entertainment venue, hosting gigs and events throughout the year. With its remarkable acoustics and unforgettable setting, it has become a favourite venue for performers and audiences alike, offering an experience unlike any other.
