Summer is just around the corner, and we believe that these events will make your summer unforgettable!
Hello, we are Molly and Miguel from Redruth School and we have put together some of what we think you should do this summer. These events are all different, however we believe that they are all equally as enjoyable! These events range from dance, art, night-lit movies, yoga to dog shows in the park. We hope you use this to make the most of your summer!
1. Dr Dance: Boogie on the Brain
A quirky mix of psychology, science and dancing.
Where: St Ives Guildhall, St Ives
When: Tue 10th July – 7.30pm
Dr Peter Lovatt, (aka Dr Dance) explores why we love to boogie in this quirky evening of psychology, science and dancing.
Boogie on the Brain is the ultimate fusion of theory and practice. It’s taking place in dance halls and great spaces across the UK where you will hear about the Psychology of Dance, and try out a variety of dance moves. No experience in either dance or psychology is required.
Dr Dance will take you through key ideas in cognitive psychology, and along the way teach you some fun, simple dance routines.
2. Miracle Theatre: The Cherry Orchard
Miracle unpacks Chekhov’s bittersweet comedy about a once-wealthy family, whose idleness and extravagance have brought them to the brink of bankruptcy.

When: Tue 10th July – 7.30pm
Bill Scott’s new adaptation treads a tragicomic tightrope, bringing out all the humour and pathos of Chekhov’s masterpiece which, more than a century after it was written is as popular as ever. Prepare for all weathers and arrive early for a special night of theatre performed under the stars!
3. Live broadcast of Truro Cathedral Choir Concert on BBC R3
Join the internationally-renowned Truro Cathedral Choir for an evening of powerful music from around Europe.
Where: Truro Cathedral, Truro
When: Thu 12th July – 7.15pm
Building up to Duruflé’s sublime Requiem will be MacMillan’s gripping anthem Cantos Sagrados, the haunting song Only in Sleep by Ēriks Ešenvalds and works by Pascoe, Tabakova and Arnesen.
The concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.
4. Teyr and the Twisted Twenty
Folk maestros join forces for a spell-binding double bill of tales, tunes and tradition
Where: Acorn Penzance, Penzance
When: Thu 12th July – 8pm
Teyr
Folk trio TEYR evolved out of London’s thriving session scene, combining bothy ballads, shanties, folk tunes and Irish poetry. Their unique blend of voices and instruments draws links between the many sounds of the Celtic and British Isles.
The Twisted Twenty
Comprising of some of the UK’s most talented classical and folk musicians, their debut album was released to great acclaim in 2017 on Penny Fiddle Records.
5. National Youth Dance Company / Sharon Eyal: Used To Be Blonde
This established dance company returns to AMATA to present a new work created by the 2017-18 Guest Artistic Director Sharon Eyal.
Where? AMATA, Penryn
When: Wed 18th July – 7.30pm
One of the most exciting female choreographers working today, this new commission will contain Eyal’s signature style, conveying extreme emotions through movement. This unique choreographic approach combined with the young dancers’ energy and talent is set to produce a mesmerising experience that pushes the dancers to their limits.

6. Yoga & Calligraphy Mindfulness Retreat

7. THIS IS IT 2018 – The Big Dance Company Summer School Showcase
The Big Dance Company annual summer showcase.
When? Fri 3rd August – 6pm
Where? The Regal Theatre, Redruth
An explosive dance showcase where students of all ages from all over the world endure a week intensive dance programme led by Fiona Richardson and BDC’s own choreographer, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ semi-finalist Kyle Richardson. They work alongside industry celebrities such as ‘Got To Dance’ winner Lukas McFarlane and finalist Charles Denton, plus international Ballet teachers from Taiwan. The showcase celebrates what the students have learnt in the last week.
8. Doggy Summer Fete
A fun packed day out at Royal Cornwall Showground with your four legged friends.
Where: Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge
When: Sun 19th August – 10.30am
Fun activities run throughout the day including have-a-go agility, fun scurry race, temptation alley and much more with prizes for the fastest times of the day! Hit our shopping area for a little retail therapy with fabulous dog related suppliers offering everything you could want for your pooch.
9. Cinema in the Park: The Sound of Music
Fun film evening in the gorgeous, night-lit park!
Where: Penlee Park Theatre, Penzance
When: Wed 22nd August – 9pm
A magical, iconic sing-a-long film. Feel free to wear your best Sound of Music costumes, we welcome assorted nuns! Spot prizes too!
10. Time & Tide – Exhibition
A magical underwater world of myths and legends.
Where: Port Navas Village Hall, Falmouth
When: Fri 24th August – Mon 27th August – 10am
Now in its 5th Year, Mel Chambers annual exhibition takes you on yet another adventure! This years theme ‘Time & Tide’ takes you through a magikal underwater world of myths & legends of the deep. Raku Fired Sculpture, Alchemy Tiles, Original Paintings and gifts to suit all budgets.
11. A Doggy Day Out in the Park
A fun filled day for pooches and owners with dog shows, agility, have-a-go activities, stalls and refreshments.
Where: Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, Torpoint
When: Sun 16th September – 10.30am
With shopping, refreshments and an array of doggy activities for you and your pooch to take part in. Have-a-go agility, dog show, scurry race, temptation alley, Pets Got Talent contest, obstacle course, flyball and so much more.
12. Tom Allen: Absolutely
Tom Allen’s unique style of sharp, acerbic wit and camp, riotous storytelling has seen him sell out shows all over the country.
