Peter Pan at The Hall for Cornwall

It’s panto time again and the Hall for Cornwall are offering a festive treat for all the family. Peter Pan has opened to jubilant crowds and we went along to soak up the magic.

The venue has been transformed into a fairy tale wonderland with a pirate ship at the bar and a Lost Boys hide out in the café. We settled on the café and ate a delicious selection of treats (definitely try the apple cake!) before heading into the auditorium for the adventure to begin.

Peter Pan has everything we’ve come to love about the Hall for Cornwall Christmas Shows, musical mashups, storybook sets and enchanting surprises. The tale has been relocated to Cornwall, with the charming Mr and Mrs Darling (Dan Ball & Lucy Park) recently moving to Cornwall with their children Michael, John, and the high spirited Wendy (Jade Lauren). They are joined by their faithful St Bernard Dog (Nana) played by a loveable Olivia Warren.

Ed Rowe plays the dastardly Captain Hook, at his scene stealing best swaggering through the auditorium and insulting the audience. His Megan Trainor number certainly “made us hook” and we loved the chaotic 12 days of Christmas number with Smee (Colin Leggo).

The ensemble is played an incredibly talented cast of Cornish children. It was a treat to see these young performers take to the Hall for Cornwall stage as Lost Boys, school children, and an endearingly comic bee.

As ever with pantomime there are some excellent set pieces. Peter (Ollie McFarlane) and Wendy pay a visit to three glittery, singing mermaids, and we thoroughly enjoyed entering into the Lost Boy’s den. But what would Peter Pan be without the flying and there is plenty of it in this production as various characters take to the skies for moving ballads and a gravity defying sword fight.

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a visit to the Hall for Cornwall and Peter Pan is full of sparkle and fun to audiences of all ages.
