About this event
Gorthwedh is the Cornish word for contrast and the Tin Coast has always been a landscape of contrasts, between above and below ground, nature and industry and poverty and prosperity.
Gorthwedh: Contrasts of the Tin Coast is an exciting opportunity to hear local people’s stories through a piece of art shown within the landscape, to re-tell those stories to the wider community and visitors and to act as a catalyst for gathering thoughts, stories, opinions and suggestions.
Gorthwedh is a collaborative project funded by Arts Council England working with Cornish artist Callum Mitchell. Callum has created a film poem featuring local people reflecting on the area’s industrial past, social change and it’s meaning to residents and visitors today. The film is going on a local tour in West Cornwall in the Spring of 2020 at various locations including Newlyn Film House, Geevor Tin Mine, Wheal Drea and the St. Just Miners Chapel.
