About this event
A practical pottery workshop for art and nature lovers. Join WEDGE Studio in central Newquay as we celebrate our incredible landscape through the medium of ceramic art.
The session begins with a foraging walk on our local beach or riverbed – guided by our resident artists, we’ll collect clays, seaweed, shells and lots of natural textures to integrate into our pottery makes.
Back in the studio our facilitators will lead a hand-built pottery demonstration and introduce the group to introductory clays, tools and skills. The group will then have several hours of workshop time to create their pottery pieces, utilising their foraged finds for sculpture, relief work and decoration.
We’ll be showing each attendee how to create a tile which will eventually be built into our new studio wall, where it will remain on permanent display for our future guests and students to enjoy – part of a gallery of pieces celebrating the diversity of our local landscape. You’ll also have time to fashion yourself a pinch bowl or similar small item using the foraged materials and skills we’ll teach you. This can be fired for you and collected later on as a souvenir of your foraged art experience.
All materials will be supplied, and all teaching is included. All tiles and pieces made on this workshop will be part of our wider Tresorys Kernow showcase held through the last week of June, and any additional pieces you make aside from the tiles (which will remain at the studio) will be available for collection/posting from early July.
This workshop is suitable for ages 10+ anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Community Renewal Fund in Cornwall.
