About this event
DiaspAURA is a family friendly, wheel chair accessible Light Festival, inspired by the facinating story of the Old Church St. Day.
Taking place over 3 evenings during February 2020 half term at the unique, atmospheric and roofless Old Church, St. Day the Day-Light Group will take you on a magical journey through illuminated landscapes both inside and outside the building.
This festival will launch a new era for the Old Church as now this community owned building is set to become a space for the arts and community events.
With the help of this talented community we aim to create a little awe and wonder to brighten up, add cheer to the long dark winter days and celebrate the approach of spring. This sensory feast will feature lasers, light installations, projections, soundscape, shadow puppetry, lanterns, music, song, dance and delicious local food. A mix of traditional techniques with modern technologies shining a myriad of coloured light on Cornish heritage and bringing its story to life.
You will be able to immerse yourself in a Green Wave Laser experience, interact with a laser installation, take part in a UV light painting workshop and be guided and entertained by our ‘Spirit of Light’ – illuminated dancer and drummer.
Each evening the entertainment will be different, opening on Friday evening with a community lantern parade highlighting the four main destinations associated with Cornwall’s ‘Cousin Jacks.’ Saturday night will be local band night, and Sunday will be choir night led by the Day-Light Choir.
Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and come prepared for all weathers.
In the lead up to the events we will be running lantern making, singing and Serpent Dance workshops. Green Wave Laser and Flat Packed Theatre will be hosting our 2nd ‘Laboratory of Light’ for those who want to come and explore and play with light.
