About this event
I make figurative ceramic work and animals based on movement, clothing, body language, humor and the human condition. I do admit to being a people watcher and many of my ideas come though observing both people and animals in every day life. My work represents a long standing interest with the figure.
The ceramic work is made in Earthstone clay and then usually smoke fired in sawdust to achieve a smooth, slightly shiny, seductive surface. After smoke firing the work is carefully cleaned and then waxed.
Recently I have been making Lino prints and I hope to develop some of the life drawings I’ve done into prints to inform the developing ceramic work. Although small scale at the moment, I hope the lino prints will get larger in scale as my printing confidence grows.
The old shop I’m working in, which has been redeveloped into a gallery and workshop space is a great and interesting environment to show work in, in the centre of Reawla. It is wonderful to be able to display and sell my work from the place I’m working in. I also have a space to run student workshops.
