Luke Owen, Artist - Open Studios

I am a Cornish based artist painting my feeling and emotions, whilst taking my influence from the landscape, sea, sun and sand that surround me.

I am a self-taught artist and have been painting for over nineteen year. Late in 2004 I committed to leaving no stone unturned for honest creative expression, a foundation that exists in my work to this day.

For many years, I painted only with chalk pastel using my fingers and hands, as I needed a deeply tactile and intimate way of painting. Over a period of time I taught myself to paint in oils and refine a technique using brush and multiple layers which reflected the subtlety and softness of pastel. More recently I have found this same gentleness with oil paint and fingers.

From 2010 – 2020 I lived and worked in southern France where I had my own open studio and gallery in the internationally known mountaintop village of Rennes le Chateau, the richness of colours of southern France greatly influences my work to this day.

Each piece I produce is a reflection of my own personal experience, a balance between shadow and light; the dance of the masculine and the feminine within and externally. Following my deep inner guidance I strive to get to the essence of every painting, embracing all parts of the human experience to the great Mystery beyond…

During the Cornwall Open Studios I will be showing my simple techniques using both Pastel and Oil Paints (by hand and brush) as well as continuing work on my ongoing pieces, visitor participation will be welcomed. Prints and Originals will be available to buy and of course, refreshments will be available too.
