About this event
Each instrument I make is unique. Some are commissioned – the design evolving as a result of a conversation and discussion between me and the customer with the aim of creating a guitar which is tailored to their needs as closely as possible. I really enjoy this collaborative process – deciding upon tonal qualities, materials, dimensions and the way that the instrument looks and feels.
Some are solely to my own design and form a small stock that I can take to show at festivals and exhibitions. They are, of course, all for sale at any time. I also like to have an experimental project under way when I can, in order to extend my own experience and, I hope, to discover and use new materials, ideas and techniques for future work. There will be one such project in progress during Open Studios week.
All visitors will be made very welcome to my workshop which is situated in a courtyard next to The Old Mill (with the original water wheel) in Crowan. I will be very happy to show and explain work under way and to answer any questions. I will have a couple of finished guitars available for anyone to try.
Accessibility
Details
Please park 100 yds up the hill at the church. Access is flat but a little uneven. There are no steps but the door to the workshop isn't wide enough for a wheelchair.
Directions
About 1/2 mile south of Praze an Beeble turn east off the B3303 towards Crowan and Crowan Church. Go under a bridge and then after another 100 yds, between two tall granite pillars is a courtyard on the right. I'm there! Park at church up the hill.
