About this event
A former cinema, dance hall and shared community space, the Palais de Danse was bought by Barbara Hepworth in 1961 to use as her second studio. Having remained untouched since Hepworth’s death in 1975, the building was recently given to Tate by the artist’s family and will now be re-imagined as a space to showcase and build on her artistic legacy.
We will be sharing initial ideas about how we plan to uncover the building’s rich history, whilst shaping its exciting future as a creative space for the community.
Over light refreshments you will have the opportunity to hear from the architects and curators, as well as take a glimpse inside parts of the original building, including its celebrated dance hall.
26 April 2024 14.00–17.00

The event will take place in the courtyard of the Palais de Danse. We will also be offering tours of the neighbouring Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, giving you the chance to explore the full breadth of Hepworth’s life and work in St Ives.
If you have photographs or memories of this historic building in the heart of St Ives, please bring them to share!
