About this event
After spending much of my life teaching, in art and special education, with involvement in various community art projects and in illustration, I have also enjoyed exhibiting in galleries mainly in the south-west and through Open Studios, both in Devon, and then over the past 10 years in Cornwall . . . I now paint, stitch, make – play! – for myself.
I am a painter with my starting point invariably reached by weaving around those influences from the mesmerising coastline, woodlands, green lanes and trackways.
Paintings are mostly mixed media, on canvas – using acrylics, oil pastels, inks and collage. Photography can be part of the exploration process, and is often developed in its own right as a medium experimenting with images through light and pattern.
I also work in rich textile embroidery, which gradually develops from earlier work in paint, creating abstract paintings with different textures, silks, threads, beads – worked in machine and hand embroidery.
At the core of my work is always the draw of the light, patterns and colours of the world around me.
I produce archival quality prints from my paintings, plus cards – and often use these images also to create small hand made books.
The Studio is just minutes from the village of Pelynt – in a rural setting, down the Lansallos/Polruan lane. Children are welcomed – with paper, crayons and simple activities to enjoy if wished. And you might even find refreshments!
