About this event
With fantastic resources of wind, sun, tides, geothermal heat and critical minerals, Cornwall could drive the whole country’s clean energy revolution.
However, the UK’s 100-year-old electricity grid means this potential can’t currently be harnessed – while huge numbers of local people are living in poorly insulated homes they can’t afford to heat.
Power to the People, presented by Cornish surfer and geologist Lucy Cotton, explores the exciting opportunities, huge challenges and frustrating problems facing us in our efforts to wean ourselves off fossil fuels – from a farmer who’s found a novel way to combine food production with solar panels, opportunities to use our historic heritage to power the future, and projects to harness the amazing untapped heat 5km down in the Earth’s crust.

In Screen 2 the wheelchair bay is at the front by the entrance to the auditorium and In Screens 3 and 4 the wheelchair bay is in the back row. Disabled Toilets - Disabled toilets are on the ground floor. Subtitled Performances - We run captioned performances whenever possible on both weekend and weekday screenings. Check the website or call the cinema directly. Relaxed/Autism Friendly Screenings - Relaxed/Autism friendly screenings are subtly-adapted screenings which create an environment that is welcoming for people with a range of conditions such as autism, learning disabilities and cognitive disorders. They have sound levels turned down, the lights left on at a low level and there are no trailers or adverts at the beginning of the film. Film-goers are able to make noise and to sit where they feel most comfortable. These screenings are usually the first Sunday in the month and often the first show of the day to avoid crowds. Look out for the logo CEA Carer Card - Merlin Cinemas participate with the CEA card which is a national concessionary card developed by the UKCA for UK cinemas. This allows people with disabilities to obtain one free ticket for a person accompanying them to the cinema. The aim of the CEA Card is to provide a consistent voluntary approach to the provision of complimentary tickets for people with disabilities. To find out more at the CEA Card website click here. CEA Cards are accepted for films on general release and event cinema, some restrictions may apply on private screenings.
