Ria Poole - Open Studios

Expressive contemporary paintings (en plein air, abstract, landscape & still life) using a range of media, charcoal life drawings & linocuts.

Ria Poole is a contemporary painter living and working in West Cornwall. Her work is intimately situated in the Cornish landscape, where she paints en plein air in all weathers, sometimes in hard to reach coastal locations to enable her to capture the most interesting perspectives. The expressive abstraction of her studio work is playfully unbound, embracing a range of techniques and media, celebrating colour and painterliness.

Ria exhibits widely across the UK and is a member of St Ives Society of Artists and an associate member of Penwith Society of Arts at Penwith Gallery. Her paintings have been shortlisted for various art prizes, including Creates Emerging Artist Award 2020, Black Swan Open Art Prize 2019, and Artists and Illustrators Artists of the Year Award 2018.

Ria offers art tutoring and creative mentoring for small groups and individuals, including outdoor landscape painting courses in West Cornwall (“Expressive Seascapes”, “Painting On The Coast”) and workshops for developing approaches to practice (“The Confident Painter”).
