Rapscallion Rollers present their 12 week 'Introduction to Roller Derby' course in Penzance

Have you heard of Roller Derby?! Penzance based team Rapscallion Rollers are currently on the hunt for new members!

Rapscallion Rollers are excited to announce their upcoming 12 week “Introduction to Roller Derby” course, perfect for anyone curious about this dynamic and empowering sport.

Roller Derby is a full contact sport played on quad skates. Gameplay involves two teams each made up of a Jammer, who attempts to score points by sprinting around a flat oval track to lap the pack, and defensive players, who focus on stopping the opposing Jammer and assisting their own team.

The officially recognised sport is quickly increasing in popularity in the UK, with wide-ranging benefits from fun and fitness to confidence-building and teamwork. Whether you are a competitive skater or just have the urge to try something new, there’s a place for everyone with roles as referees, non-skating officials and committee and coaching positions for those who feel the full-contact aspect of the sport is not for them.

Lace up your skates and get ready to:
• Learn the fundamentals of roller derby skating, including basic skills and safety.
• Discover the rules and strategies of the game.
• Experience the camaraderie and teamwork that roller derby fosters.
• Have a blast in a fun and supportive environment.

This course is ideal for:
• Individuals of any gender over the age of 18, with or without skating experience.
• Anyone looking for a new and exciting way to get active.

Course Details:
• Dates: April 10th – June 26th Wednesdays 18:45-21:00 (12 weeks)
• Location: Penzance Leisure Centre TR18 3QW
• Cost: £85 with own kit or £105 with kit hire
• Equipment: Quad skates, helmet, elbow, wrist and knee pads.
• Skates and safety gear can be hired for the duration of the course.
