FARCE COMES TO GWEEK
Gweek Players’ next production is Rumours by the hit American dramatist Neil Simon. This is a farce – not one of the 1960s farces, all trouser-dropping and scantily-clad young ladies, but a classic farce, defined as “believable people in unbelievable situations”. Well, judge for yourself …
Charley and Viv have invited eight friends to their wedding anniversary party, but when the first two arrive they find that Viv has disappeared, Charley has shot himself in the earlobe and passed out due to an overdose of valium. Since he is a government minister, his friends are desperate to avoid a scandal. So, as each new couple arrives, they are at first kept in the dark, until the others are forced to tell them what happened – but why did it happen? Then, in Act Two, the police turn up …
Rumours will be performed at Gweek Village Hall at 7.30 from Wednesday 10 to Friday 12 April, and at 2.30 on Saturday 13 April. Tickets: £12 including a delicious dessert. Tickets can be booked from the Minack (www.minack.com) from 22 February.
