Following a prolonged covid-induced hiatus, St Ives Arts Club is delighted to announce that the World Classics Series is now at last resuming, in the form of a concert at which sitarist Mehboob Nadeem and tabla player Hanif Khan will be performing North Indian (Hindustani) classical music (khyal).
Mehboob plays in the gayaki style developed by the late sitarist Ustad Vilayat Khan – a style in which the player seeks to emulate the human voice, in particular by deflecting the melody string to produce portamenti.
Hanif Khan will be well known to Cornish concertgoers, having played in many previous concerts in this series.
Both players are London-based, and this St Ives recital will be their only performance in the Westcountry this year.
