Tregony Contemporary is proud to announce the unveiling of Storytelling, a captivating exhibition featuring the evocative works of acclaimed artist James Bland NEAC. Renowned for his masterful oil paintings, Bland’s artistry is characterised by vivid depictions of light, unconventional colour harmonies, and enigmatic narratives that transport viewers into richly layered worlds.
Inspired by a diverse tapestry of influences spanning cinema, dreams, literature, and history, Bland’s compositions resonate with echoes of past experiences and imagined landscapes. Drawing from a wide array of inspirations, from Giotto to Klee, from Kossoff to De Chirico, Bland’s canvases invite audiences to embark on a journey through the realms of memory and imagination.
In Storytelling, Bland explores the power of recollection and the essence of childhood through a series of compelling vignettes. From the bustling energy of a schoolyard to the exhilarating whirl of a funfair, each painting captures fleeting moments imbued with nostalgia and whimsy. Through his meticulous attention to detail and nuanced colour palettes, Bland breathes life into cherished memories, inviting viewers to revel in the beauty of everyday existence.
Reflecting on his own personal journey and artistic evolution, Bland’s self-portraits offer intimate glimpses into his inner world, while his still life compositions serve as meditations on the passage of time and the interplay of light and shadow. From the sun-drenched landscapes of Andalusia to the quiet serenity of Grimsby Docks, each painting invites contemplation and discovery.
