About this event
It would be a pleasure to welcome you to The Old Milking Barn for the Open Studios week in 2024. It was always our intention when we set about saving a crumbling building, to create a unique space as a gallery/studio. After a lot of blood, sweat and tears, today it feels like we have achieved our goal. The Barn showcases a selection of my favourite seascapes, a collection of upcycling projects and some lovely antiques & curios that I have accumulated over the years.
The north Cornwall clifftops, beaches and waves are without doubt a photographer’s dream. Whatever the weather (and usually the worse the better) I am out with my camera in search of new locations or vantage points. Landscapes and definitely seascapes are challenging for sure and the results sometimes subjective in terms of their appeal. My hope is that my work goes some way to capturing the unfolding drama of the coastline, its immense scale and power, and in doing so offer some perspective as to how small us humans are in the grand scheme of things. When you visit the Barn, you will be able to enjoy a selection of framed prints on the walls and scroll through further images that you might like digitally.
In addition to photography in recent years I have rekindled a passion for upcycling, antiques and curios. The Barn feels like the perfect place to display and photograph my collection and it would be a pleasure to share it with you.
It is hard to categorise the collection I have compiled. I like what I like. For sure there is a common authenticity that runs through most of the items and perhaps a sense of nostalgia as an antidote to the throw away transient society we live in today. At its simplest I am doing my bit for recycling and surround myself with lovely things that have a soul and story to tell.
So please do come and say hi if you are able. Coffee and refreshments will be available and perhaps even a home made biscuit.

Google Maps is pretty good at directing people to the property. We are the first house on the left as you come up the hill from the A39. Using What3words app the location to the parking spot is ///wiggling.admiringly.trams.
