About this event
Time-lapse, will reflect themes arising from 2020.
The Cornwall and Devon DN Cluster is a new initiative launched in 2020 by Design-Nation (DN), an organisation supporting authentic, exceptional craftsmanship and design ability.
Within our cluster we are a group of artists and makers of jewellery, ceramics, glass, sculptural silver, wearable art, film and textiles. Our work is held in private collections and has been exhibited in prestigious galleries, such as the V&A and Saatchi Gallery. This year, despite restrictions on sales opportunities and exhibitions, we have continued to create work and now wish to explore public responses to our art by staging a major interactive exhibition which will evolve over time.
This project, Time-lapse, will reflect themes arising through the time of Covid: sanctuary, isolation, containment, creativity and mental health. Reflecting changing times, we will invite public participation through physical and online conversations, workshops and making sessions.
The Time-lapse exhibition will open at Royal Cornwall Museum: a record of what happened when time stopped as Covid took hold. It is an opportunity for us to present work exploring this theme, emerging once again into the public domain after a period of containment and introspection. Using the exhibition as a springboard we will explore the benefits of creating art as a way of coping with living through a pandemic.
We aim to establish the DN group within Cornwall and Devon’s rich creative community as a leading ‘go to’ place for craft/ art skills and knowledge.
We hope to inspire, generate ideas and a sense of community and set best practice examples. As Susan Hiller said, ‘Artists have a function. We are part of a conversation. It is our job to represent and mirror back the values of the culture in a way that people haven’t seen before.’
Taking part are Alison Brown, Bridget Macklin, Lynne Speake, Fiona Sperryn, Lucy Spink, Alison Brown, Sue Kinley.
