About this event
After exploring the sea, man turned his attention to the sky. Join us as we discover, via a special Museum trail, how scientists, astronomers and Captain Cook all embarked on a mission to answer the question, how big is the Universe?
Trail
The trails start at 11.30, 1.30 and 3.30, meeting in the Museum’s Main Hall. Each tour lasts an hour. Offering a special tour around the Museum, Mayes Creative will be here to explain how Venus and the Sun helped answer this enormous question over 250 years ago. On your journey around the Solar System you’ll uncover some of the mysteries of the Universe and see how travel by sea led to a better understanding of space.
Make and Take
Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 February, 12pm – 3.30pm. Unleash your inner astronomer in the Museum’s Make and Take workshops and create a planisphere, telescope or rocket.
It’s free!
The Transit of Venus activities are FREE as part of the Museum’s annual admission fee. Pay once and get in free for a year.
