About this event
It’s been 32-years since Wendy James made the kind of first impression one doesn’t soon forget. Tyre-screechingly beautiful and possessed of the kind of swagger that suggested she attended school on Bash Street, she wielded her piercing sexuality in a manner that left the viewer in no doubt about who was the boss. When she sang the words “you don’t have to say you love me… baby please believe me, I don’t care” – from Baby I Don’t Care, Transvision Vamp’s biggest hit – she did so with the air of someone who meant it.
In May Wendy release her new album “Queen High Street”. Universally garnering 4/5 and 5/5 reviews, the album sees Wendy working with a glitterati of uber-cool musicians; James Sedwards, (Thurston Moore), James Sclavunos, (Bad Seeds), James Williamson, (The Stooges) and Terry Edwards, (PJ Harvey, Gallon Drunk, Tindersticks). Wendy will be touring during the autumn to promote the album. We are stoked to announce that Old Bakery Truro is a venue Wendy has chosen to visit on her tour.
Of the new album Wendy says; “It turns out that the older I’ve become the more confident and determined I am in my abilities to express myself truthfully, as opposed to going through a producer or a collaborative process with different writers,”
Come down to The Old Bakery on August 31st and be impressed. In addition to her new material, Wendy and her band will also be proudly performing songs from her incredible past.
