About this event
Wendy is a full time British artisan specialising in handmade bags, wallets and other accessories under her ‘Pohutukawa’ label. Her business name is a reminder of time spent in New Zealand – the Pohutukawa tree is evergreen and part of the myrtle family.
Wendy is inspired by the surrounding flora and fauna, in her garden and on the Moor, and enjoys adding to her Nature collection. Her original designs move from a sketch to a pattern, to building a picture with embroidery and appliqué detail with carefully chosen fabrics. As a result, her bags and accessories are unique or limited editions, made with skill and precision, and designed to last.
Wendy sources Harris Tweed directly from the Outer Hebridean weavers. For those who think Harris Tweed is dowdy and boring visit the studio to see her bright, colourful and modern designs.
See Wendy working on her latest creation in her Victorian ‘gin house’ studio which is located on the edge of Bodmin Moor (designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)), just off the A30. The studio has a lovely garden, which you can enjoy with a cup of coffee (or tea) should you wish.
